For acting class. We picked a cartoon show out of a hat, and we had to create a character in the style of that show and provide a bio/description. I've never seen Boondocks before. When I looked it up on google, I was kinda disappointed because I don't like its anime kinda style. Oh well, this is great practise for working in ze real world.

Im still inspired from today. These are quick paintings, practise makes perfect. There was actually a blue-dyed rooster/chicken.. I didn't actually see it clearly, but I had fun painting a cartoony version.

Today I learned just how difficult it is to draw horses. And all animals in general haha... P.s. I love drawing ducks and roosters.. too bad the roosters/chickens were in a cage in the middle of the petting zoo, too far from view.

Here's a commission I finished last month. I designed the graphics (man/woman/bride/groom) on business cards for a wedding vendor/company (didn't design the logo=P). I was commissioned by a relative's friend, who's a professional wedding photographer. Yay, I have stuff to post! Most of these drawings are caricatures, except a couple of them. The scared looking dude is referenced from a very useful book called Facial Expressions, by Simon. The Madge a.k.a Madonna and Usher caricature is drawn in pencil, referenced from online (I googled them). I tried caricaturing Paris, but I ended up cartoonifying her instead haha. Christian Bale, as you can see by the clipping, is referenced from the magazines you get from movie theatres. Lastly, My first attempts at live caricaturing, and first time using the colour sticks, marker.. =S

Timmy Drawings

Here's a prime example of how I go off on little drawing tangents, that have nothing to do with the assignment =D Before we started building our own character in the style of Fairly Odd Parents, our prof gave us model sheets from the show and he wanted us to practise drawing the characters. We were encouraged to trace them too, so we get an accurate sense of the characters' design. I managed to trace a few, but I thought it'd be cool do dress Timmy in different costumes. I had the song "Circus" in my head, so I drew Timmy as a ringleader or ringmaster... ring something? You know what I mean =D Anyway, I drew Timmy in a bunny outfit because his buck teeth obviously resembles bunny teeth. Along the side, or the bottom depending on how you look at the page, I traced Timmys Parents. All in all, it's nothing special, really, I needed to post more things on meh blog.

When I'm bored, or half listening to someone speak (Im joking =P), I usually draw weird illustrative or graphic design-esque sketches in ballpoint pen. Since I have all the time in the world with half a course load, my goal is to better myself as an artist. I'm going to extra life, cafe drawing, and studying from anatomy books. Also, even though it's my least favorite subject, I will practise the basics of animation. This, I really have to be confident in by September. I'm armed with some good advice and learning devices, thanks to meh fellow animators and Amazon.ca. I should be fine =D Anywho, back to what I'm posting..

Here are the model sheets for the Grim Reaper. The first pic are the expressions, the second pic are the poses. The Reaper's expression sheet is my fav, just because i like the way i did the background. Hopefully I can loosen up my posing and make things look more expressive/ interesting with lots of practise.

Yea, I know I'm in animation. I just think these could pass as modern logo designs or promo posters. Photoshop filters take alllll the credit for the nice liquidy effect. I was doodling in photoshop, and I ended up painting a female brunette in a yellow flowy dress. Then I started messing around with some filters. This filter obviously took the colours away. I liked the inky black and liquidy chrome effect, so I decided to leave that and use it as a theme.

Trip to the Motherland

Here's a massive upload of the photos I'd taken from my trip to England. I still want to post some more. Anyway, I visited London and Portsmouth, England during reading week in February 2008. Portsmouth was the hometown my Dad and his side of the family.

Toonboom Assignments

The bouncing scarecrow head was my very first Toonboom assignment. I think it looks alright, except for the fact that it looks like he's hitting the ceiling. The eye position rotates slightly too.

As you can see, I used the trial version of Toonboom. For this assignment, I decided not to use my horrendous Meow and I used my Pink Panther Side Step instead. Even though it's really stiff, I like the daintiness of his side step. The scanned drawings were coloured in Toonboom.

Cafe Sketch@Petting Zoo

Just realised that I haven't done animal sketches in forever and a half. Anyway, these sketches are from 1st year when I went to a petting zoo in downtown Toronto. It was nice the animals weren't constantly moving.

As for the random elephant sketch, that's from a trip to the African Lion Safari. That's the result of a good few hrs at the zoo. The experience was a little frusterating, because ofcoarse, only the best animals were hiding from all of the small children.

Here was one of my portfolio pieces from when I applied to Sheridan's Illustration and Seneca's Graphic Design program.

This was one of the last assignments done in Art Fundies at Sheridan. Our assignment was to create a distortion of a celebrity's face. At the time we were learning about the effects of warm vs. cool colours. I think it's not too shabby, it's definetly one of my favorites.

Intelligent Mr. Hyde

This was an assignment for Character Design, which entailed drawing a second pose using a given character.

I posed the character reading, which is probably the most boring pose ever haha. I had technical difficulties with the leg-crossing position, and the position of the left elbow, the arm which props up his head. The elevated foot should be tilted and a bit smaller to show perspective. Also needs some shadows around the books, since there's shadows everwhere else.
